A Few Water Saving Plumbing Tips For Earth Day

Earth Day is later this month. It marks the anniversary of the modern conservation movement.  One area we can all make an easy and effective effort to conserve natural resources involves your homes plumbing system.

Here are a few easy DIY tips to help conserve water and save money.

Dye Test Your Toilets

Dye test your toilets for leaks. The toilet is the most common and costly leaker of water in a home. An average leaky toilet can waste up to 200 gallons of water a day. Since the leaking water goes down the drain and into the sewer you may never notice the leak until the bill comes or you dye test the toilet.

Use Aerators

Make sure your faucets have aerators. An aerator can cut the flow of water without decreasing pressure by up to 50%. This can add up to gallons of water saved per minute.

Inspect Your Plumbing for Drips

Take a few minutes and inspect all of you faucets, fixtures and hose bibs. If they are leaking or dripping, take the time to get it fixed. Drips don’t go away on their own.

You may be surprised how much water and money you can save. If you need help, give us a call. Good Luck!
