Why Drain Line Jetting Is Better for Your Drains

Travis and Bear with Jetter

From your local plumber at Rooter Man Charleston

If you’ve got a drain that’s slow, backs up now and then, or just smells bad, you’re not alone. We see it all the time around Charleston — grease-filled kitchen lines, bathroom drains full of gunk, and yard drains clogged with sand after a big rain. While there are a few ways to clear a blockage, nothing we’ve seen works better (or lasts longer) than hydro jetting.

Let’s break it down.

What Is Drain Line Jetting?

Jetting, or hydro jetting, is a term for flushing your pipes clean with high-pressure water. We use a special hose with a jetting nozzle that shoots water in all directions inside the pipe. It scrubs the walls clean and flushes everything out the other end.

Unlike snaking, which kind of punches a hole through the clog, jetting clears the whole line — grease, sludge, hair, food scraps, you name it. It’s like pressure washing the inside of your pipes.

Why We Recommend It Over Traditional Methods

Here’s why hydro jetting has become our go-to method:

1. It Gets the Job Done Right

Snakes and augers are fine for minor clogs, but they may leave a lot behind. That leftover gunk becomes the start of your next clog. Jetting can blast it all away — even years of buildup.

2. It Keeps Your Drains Clear Longer

Because jetting can thoroughly clean the pipe, it helps prevent future clogs.

3. It’s Safe for Most Pipes

People sometimes ask if jetting is too rough. Not when it’s done right. We always inspect the line first when possible — if the pipe’s in good shape, jetting is safe and very effective. It works great on PVC, cast iron, and even older clay pipes (which we see a lot of in Charleston).

4. No Chemicals, Just Water

Jetting is eco-friendly. No harsh drain cleaners. No chemicals washing into our waterways. Just clean, pressurized water doing what it does best.

5. It Can Save You Money

Sure, jetting might cost a bit more than a basic mechanical snaking job up front. But if it means you don’t have to deal with repeat clogs or emergency weekend backups, it’s worth every penny. Especially during hurricane season when drains need to perform.

When Should You Consider Jetting?

  • You’ve had the same drain clog more than once
  • You run a restaurant or commercial kitchen (grease builds up fast)
  • You’ve got yard or storm drains that don’t keep up with the rain
