A Few Things to Consider Before Hiring a Plumber

As a home owner you know that things break and wear out. Home plumbing repairs may require calling a professional plumber to help you solve your problem.

Before hiring a plumber you may want to consider the following:

1.Ability: Choose a plumber or plumbing company based on the reputation and reviews of the customers rather than the cost alone.

2. License or Certification: Check for the license or certification, they may need to have it in order to make their company legitimate. Moreover every state issues the one.

3. Insurance: They must have both workers’ compensation and liability insurance. The cost of hiring someone without it could be tremendous.

4. Visits: Group all your plumbing repairs so that there is only one visit to save the most money
.
5. Service Guarantees: What happens if after some minutes/hours/days after words the problem returns? Will it be re-fixed? Is the work guaranteed? Ask for a written warranty.

6. Safety: What if injuries or property damage occur during the repair work. It’s always a good idea to ask rather than assume that hey will handle things in a professional manner.

7. Clean Up: Are they taking the responsibility for the clean up after the work has been finished? Will they properly dispose of the old fixtures or pipe?

8. Pricing: It is good to compare prices before you hire one. Sometimes lowest prices as well highest prices didn’t give you the best value or result. Request a written estimate before you start.

Consider these things in order to make sure you are choosing the right plumber for your home and within your budget.

-Discolored or dead vegetation over or near the pipeline
-A hissing, whistling or roaring sound near a gas appliance or pipeline
-Dirt or debris being blown into the air
-Persistent bubbles in streams, ponds, or wet areas

A Little Plumbing Un-Common Sense

No home owner or renter wants to be inconvenienced with a plumbing malfunction. Most drain clogs can be avoided with a little un-common sense. To avoid calling your local plumber out, avoid these two common mistakes.

Most of our toilet or drain calls are caused by flushing items that should not be flushed. The toilet is a great invention, but it is designed to flush human waste and tissue. It is not a garbage can. Diapers, hand towels, cleaning rags, feminine hygiene products, baby wipes, house hold chemicals, food, and kitty litter are not meant to be flushed. Enough of this and eventually you will have a huge problem. Some of these items are not easily removed from a plumbing system.

Second, take the time to teach your kids some un-common bathroom etiquette. Make sure you explain as well as show them to only use a few squares of toilet tissue. You would be surprised at how many plumbing issues are caused by young children speed rolling the tissue into the toilet. Also take a few minutes and explain what not to put in the toilet. A lot of hot wheels, toys and the like don’t need to go for a swim. When they are flushed they usually don’t make it out of the toilet trap. There they will sit clogging the toilet. Some can be pushed thru with an auger while others required a new toilet installation.

Do I Need A Plumber?

There are times when we just need to face facts. Some of these occasions arise when we try to deal with problems that occur around our homes depending upon our own ability. There is always something that we just cannot fix on our own.

We may try to take some of them on and have all the right intentions in doing so but normally there is that one thing that we just cannot get right. Plumbing is one of those things that many people have trouble with but try any way. Most plumbing in homes these days can be somewhat complicated, though it sounds simple.

Plumbing is pretty much just pipes right? If you have this idea then you should think again. Much like the electricity in our homes, plumbing is very complicated and technical. One wrong move and any number of problems can arise, including water getting to places where it just does not belong and sewage backing up into the home or yard. I can’t tell you the number of times we have seen the weekend warrior cause thousands of dollars worth of damage trying to save a couple hundred dollars.

The best thing to do is to call a plumbing professional. Professional plumbers are well-trained in the skills and ability to handle all of your plumbing needs, no matter how difficult it might seem.

Being honest with ourselves concerning our abilities in terms of plumbing will save us from potential disaster. Rooter Man of Charleston will help solve the problems we face and will ensure that our pipes, faucets, drains, and everything concerning plumbing continues to run efficiently. Being handy around the house can be a good thing but if your problem is bigger than your true abilities then seeking, interviewing, and reviewing the right help will save you money, time, heartache, and frustration in the long run.

Do You Have An Irrigation System?

If you have an irrigation system for your home or business, or are considering installing one, you may be able to lower your monthly water bill by getting a separate irrigation account—a water meter that’s exclusively for outdoor water use.

You won’t pay any sewer charges for the irrigation account, which can add up to significant savings over time. There is an up-front cost to install and connect the irrigation meter; the payback period on that cost depends on how much water you use and where you live.

To find out more information or to see if an irrigation meter is right for you, call Rooter Man Plumbing.

The Facts About Filters

Many water systems contain tap water that is highly treated and continually tested to make sure it’s safe to drink, but some people prefer the taste of filtered water.

Many faucet-mounted filters and filtration pitchers use carbon to remove compounds that affect the taste and smell of water, but there are many other types of home treatment systems designed to remove different things.

Generally, a home filtration system isn’t necessary unless you have a compromised immune system and are directed by your doctor to take certain precautions.

A good resource for information about filters is the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF). This is a non-profit organization that tests and certifies consumer products, including home water treatment products.

Avoiding Problems with a Professional Plumber

It is not uncommon in this economy to see home owners and landlords make an effort to solve their own plumbing problems when they pop up in an attempt to save money. Some are successful at it but often we find that their solution ends up only being a temporary one. If you want to achieve all round success, it is advisable to consider using a professional plumber. There is no doubt that plumbing can be an expensive venture but if you stick with using a professional plumbing company you will be better off.

Some of the common issues you avoid with a professional plumber include the following:

Gas line leaks: When dealing with damaged gas lines, a professional plumber will address the issue with a high level of efficiency. This is attributed to the fact that they have the appropriate devises for testing pressure and checking if there are any leaks. Additionally, the plumber is able to tighten any loose pipes and thread pipes to increase the efficiency and safety of your system.

• Flooding: If you are dealing with cases of flooding, then a professional plumber is the best solution for your needs. They address the issue with a high level of efficiency and ensure that the right measures are put into place to avoid cases of flooding in the future. There are new products available that can actually prevent flooding due to water leaks. These products help ensure that your house does not run the risk of getting damaged due to flooding.

Frozen pipes: Yes we do get frozen pipes in the low country. A professional plumber can insulate pipes and seal cracks that will protect your plumbing from the cold temperatures.

• Water and sewer lines: In this case, you have to find professional plumber to address the problem. You do not want to contaminate your potable water and clearing a sewer line can be dangerous unless you have the right equipment and training.

Water heater: In cases where you are having issues with water heaters you should hire a professional plumber so that they can check on your warranty, as well as properly size the a water heater for your home. Many times parts and heaters are replaced at the owner’s expense when the parts are actually under warranty.

Remember that some plumbing jobs are best left to the professional. There is nothing worse that making a plumbing repair that turns out to only be temporary and causes damage to you home and property when the repair fails.
